  • OnePlus One Launching in India!

Back in July, OnePlus via an official blog said that the company would launch its operations in India soon. Now once again the company has once again mentioned India in its post on the same forum site. The company confirms that it will release the flagship device in India.

Thus, OnePlus One will surely come to India. Moreover, since a coordinator will be hired to resolve distributions, operation and market analysis, we're sure that mass production is imminent and everybody will soon get their hands on the flagship.

To be precise, here is what OnePlus representative has written on the blog, "A key figure to our success in India will be our General Manager who will help us set up the India team and operations. Today, we're announcing that we're hiring for this position. Like any other company, we're looking for experience, brains, and perseverance - but none of this matters if we don't share the same dreams or connect on culture." It further reads, "We need your help to source the crazy talent that will help build OnePlus into an Indian success story. Please have a look at our job description, and share it with whomever you think might be a good fit." However, the company has not yet revealed the precise date for the launch of the device in India.

What’s the catch, you ask? Sounds like the perfect phone, doesn’t it? Well, it isn’t quite. The biggest complaint from the community isn’t really about the phone itself but about the fact that you can’t just go to a store or online and buy the phone. You’ll need an invite, and you can only get an invite from someone who already has one, through various contests, or by being a supporter on the forums (the earlier you join the forums, the sooner you will get your invite). On top of that, you’ll have to claim your invite within 24 hours, after which it gets canceled. As for the phone itself, some users have complained of a yellow-ish tinge on their screen, call volume problems, and other small niggles.
No phone is perfect, but if you look at the price to performance ratio, the OnePlus One comes pretty close.

The phone will cost you $299(which comes to around Rs 18,000) for the 16 GB variant and $349 for the 64 GB version(roughly Rs 21,500). Yes, let that sink in. Those prices are in dollars because the phone is not yet available for purchase in India. That hasn’t stopped people in India from attaining an invite and getting the phone shipped from the US (or any of the other launch countries). The phone can also be acquired at a premium on various websites and through scalpers. If that is too much work for you and you are in no hurry to get the phone, it has officially been announced that the phone will be coming to India soon.

  • Facebook Messenger Is Now (Finally) On Windows Phone

Microsoft used its pre-Mobile World Congress press conference last week to talk about how Windows Phone is closing the app gap with rival platforms — and hammered that point home bu also announcing that Facebook Messenger would be available within “weeks“.

True to its word, Redmond has today confirmed the Facebook messaging app is now finally available to users of Windows Phone — more than two years after it arrived on iOS and Android.

You can download Facebook Messenger from the Windows Phone Store — right here. (Doing a search for Facebook Messenger on the store still brings up rival IM apps and Facebook’s main app, instead of Messenger.)

Last week Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore said the company had been working together with Facebook testing out the Messenger app for a while — presumably they were honing things like the flat design stickers the app includes (below right)…

Whether it was worth Windows Phone users waiting so long for some perfectly flat cutesy stickers remains to be seen.

Microsoft is slowly getting more big name apps to port to Windows Phone — finally snagging Instagram last fall, for instance, and name-checking the likes of Vine and Waze as other recent arrivals at its MWC presser last week.

However even as it’s closing the biggest app gaps, there’s no denying Windows Phone continues to experience an app lag — being last in the queue to get hot new apps.

That’s a reality of being the third mobile ecosystem that Microsoft — for all the money it throws at app developers — appears unable to influence.
  • Report: First Dual-Boot Windows and Android Phones Coming This Year!!

Recently there's been a push to have PCs dual booting with Android and Windows, and it seems that may soon extend to phones. Reports suggest that the first Windows Phone-Android dual booting handsets are coming this year.

The Times of India reports that Karbonn Mobiles has signed a licensing agreement with Microsoft and plans to release a phone that boots into both Windows Phone and Android within the next six months. "Microsoft has eased the regulations and is opening up its platform for other players. We signed the agreement two days ago and will launch a range of Windows Phones in about three months," explained Karbonn chairman Sudhir Hasija to The Times of India.

The new handsets will reportedly be aimed at "professionals" and "tech-savvy consumers." Last year, Bloomberg reported that the head of Microsoft's operating systems unit Terry Myerson asked HTC to "load Windows Phone as a second option on [Android] handsets." Not much ever came of that, but with this new report it suggests that Microsoft is keen to get involved in dual-boot phones.

Which, honestly, we're not clear on the benefits of. Unlike PCs where dual-booting can help run once piece of hardware for quite different usage scenarios, a phone is, when it comes down to it, a phone. You talk, text, email, browse and snap photos and it's just not clear to us why you'd need to boot into a whole different OS for some marginal benefit in functionality. But hey, let's not stand in the way of progress. 2014 may the year of populist dual-booting; let's wait see what that holds.
  • Lenovo Features A 28 Inch and 4K Display

2014 looks like to be the year where 4K comes in mass to the market – or at least the high end and professional market to begin with.  We might have to wait another year before the cheaper panels filter through the chain, but until that point, we can still all gaze in awe at what comes on the market.  Lenovo is one of the manufacturers coming to the front with a 28” 4K (3840x2160) offering, although unlike the Dell version which is meant to be more mainstream than their higher end panels, Lenovo’s high end aims at the professional market with the 28 inch panel, the Pro2840m.

It supports both operating systems viz- Android 4.4 KitKat and windows both together in one panel. Due to having a touch panel KitKat becomes very interesting to operate on such a large panel. Lenovo is the first company featuring android and windows integrated in one single panel with such a high resolution. It touts EnergyStar 6.0 and EPEAT GOLD ratings and offers 10bit color depth, 72 percent color gamut, 1000:1 ration and 5ms response time. Integrated speakers provide ultimate usability, turning this display into one complete package

    Pricing and Availability

The ThinkVision Pro2840m will be available from April 2014 and is expected to start at $799.
The ThinkVision 28 smart display will be available in selected markets from July 2014. Pricing is set at $799, which is awesome value for a 4K monitor.
